Karen Couillard is one of the hottest new
Canadian artists to conquer the international
art scene. With her own style, which she
titles “Groovy
Arts”, she is
known for being an entrepreneur in the art
world and for creating a new genre. Karen’s
unique art captures the spontaneity and fun
of today’s fashion trends and contemporary
living with everything from uptown girls,
to bustiers, to martinis and Love Bugs.
Karen grew up in Canada’s East Coast
and attended Cegep of Riviere-du-Loup for
Interior Design as well as Laval University
for Fine Arts. After completing university,
Karen enjoyed a career as an illustrator
working for a children’s wear company
called "Saute Mouton" in
Quebec City. Karen’s love of the arts
eventually led her to Ontario where her unique
sense
of creativity was welcomed and embraced.
She began painting and distributing her artwork
through upscale boutiques,
which also led to the creation of other customized
pieces for their exclusive clientele.
With prominent gallery representation in
Canada and the United States along side world
famous artists such as Charles Fazzino, Romeo
Britto, LeRoy Neiman and Burton Moris, Karen’s
work is considered “hot
property” by
art connoisseurs. Her groovy art is acquired
by many private and corporate collectors
across Canada, the United States, Mexico
and Europe. Women of all ages, in particular,
are flocking to Karen’s fresh designs,
and her collections have appeared on CFTO
"Panorama", CH
11 “CH
Morning Live,” Hamilton, KNBC-TV “News
4,” Los
Angeles, KESQ-TV “Channel 3
News,” Palm
Springs, City TV “CityLine,” Toronto as
well as in many publications including “ The
Hamilton Spectator,” “West of
the City,” “Art World News,” “Le
Madawaska,” “The Globe and Mail” and
the popular French magazine “Décoration
Chez-Soi.”
Karen’s art has enjoyed an overwhelming
response during the past few years. From
fashion ad campaigns for Holt Renfrew to
licensing new products, Karen is getting
a lot of attention. She was the official
artist for the high-profile event for the
Jeanne Lottie — Pink Bedroom Party
2003 for the Breast Cancer Foundation and
also donated her piece “Leaving
Las Vegas” for the Fashion Cares Charity
Event for Aids, 2004.
September 2004, Karen launched with success
two new lifestyle brands: Groovy-O-Grams and Groovy
Arts at Home. She teamed up with
her husband Steve Couillard, an accomplished
Creative Director, to create a new and sassy
line of stationery and giftware called Groovy-O-Grams
based on her most popular paintings.
She continues to work in her studio located
in Burlington, Ontario where she resides
with her husband Steve and two children.
